What is PNG → JPG?

Converting PNG to JPG is one of the top-3 image tasks people search for online. The tricky bit is that PNG supports transparency and JPG doesn't — every transparent pixel has to be filled with something before encoding. This tool draws each PNG onto a Canvas with a background color you choose (defaults to white) and then encodes as JPG at the quality you pick. Everything happens locally, so even confidential screenshots or product mockups stay on your device.

How to convert PNG to JPG

  1. 1Drop one or many PNGs into the drop zone.
  2. 2Pick a quality (default 92%) and, if your PNGs have transparent areas, a background color.
  3. 3Click 'Convert to JPG'.
  4. 4Download each JPG or grab them all in one go.

Use Cases

Reduce page weight

JPGs are typically 3-10× smaller than PNGs for photographic content. Great for hero images on landing pages.

Legacy print pipelines

Some print vendors only accept JPG; PNG must be flattened first.

Email attachments

Reduce attachment size by converting screenshot-heavy PNGs to 85%-quality JPGs.

Tips & Best Practices

  • Screenshots and text-heavy images look worse as JPG because JPG's DCT compression struggles with sharp edges. Keep those as PNG.
  • Photographs, product shots, and gradients look identical at 90-92% JPG quality but shrink dramatically.
  • If your PNG has partial transparency (soft shadows over a page background), pick a background color close to the page background so the shadow blends in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my transparent PNG get a white background in JPG?

JPG doesn't support transparency. Any transparent pixel has to be filled with something — this tool defaults to white but you can pick any color with the picker before converting.

How is quality controlled?

Use the quality slider (50–100%). Higher = larger file, sharper output. 90% is a solid default for photographs; drop to 75-85% for smaller web assets.

Is my PNG uploaded?

No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser via HTML Canvas. Nothing is uploaded, no watermark is added.
