What is GIF Maker?
Animated GIFs are a sequence of still images (frames) played in order at a specified speed. Each frame is displayed for a set number of milliseconds (delay), then replaced by the next frame. Unlike video formats (MP4, WebM), GIFs are universally supported — they play without any player, in emails, chats, tweets, and every browser since 1995.
How to make a GIF
- 1Drag and drop images — they'll be ordered as frames.
- 2Set the delay between frames (200ms default, lower = faster).
- 3Click Play to preview the animation.
- 4Click Export GIF to download.
Frequently Asked Questions
What file formats can I use as frames?
Any common image format — PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, BMP. The maker reads the raw pixel data, so any browser-supported image format works.
What's the maximum number of frames?
There's no hard limit, but very long GIFs produce large files. For 50+ frames at 400×300, the file may be 2-5 MB. For longer animations, consider MP4/WebM video instead.
Does the GIF Maker work offline?
It runs entirely in the browser, but GIF encoding uses web workers that need to load the encoder script. Once the page is loaded, no further network requests are needed.
