PDF utilities that keep your file on your machine

PDF is where contracts, invoices, medical records, tax returns, and passport scans end up. Uploading those files to an unknown server every time you need to check a page count or read an author field is the wrong trade-off. The tools in this category work differently: every operation runs inside your browser using Mozilla's pdf.js engine — the same library Firefox uses to display PDFs — and pdf-lib for anything that writes. Nothing about the file, its content, or its password ever leaves your device. If you unplug the network after the page loads, the tools still work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do these tools upload my PDF to a server?

No. Every tool in this category parses the PDF in your browser using pdf.js. You can verify with your browser's DevTools Network tab — no request is made when you open a file.

How large a PDF can I open?

There is no hard-coded limit. In practice, browsers handle PDFs up to a few hundred megabytes; huge scanned archives may run out of memory. If a file is too large, split it first with a desktop tool.

Do the tools work offline?

Yes. Once the page has loaded, everything runs on your device. You can disconnect from the internet and continue working.

Why don't you offer PDF-to-Word conversion?

PDF-to-Word requires reflowing arbitrary layout back into a Word document — even server-side tools do this poorly. We prefer to ship tools we can execute correctly rather than approximate conversions that will disappoint you.
